Important safety notice for brooches in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR)
This is a targeted safety notice for the correct and safe use of brooches (with a pin/needle, safety clasp, magnetic fastening, with stones, pearls, or decorative elements). Since they contain sharp points, small parts, and often magnets, please follow the instructions below to avoid injuries and damage to clothing.
Basic safety and handling principles
- Keep out of reach of children: The sharp needle and small parts (stones, rings, magnets) pose a risk of injury and swallowing; the product is not a toy.
- Secure fastening: Before wearing, check that the needle clasp is functional and securely snaps shut; do not use a damaged brooch.
- Magnetic variants: Keep magnets away from payment cards and sensitive electronics; persons with pacemakers/ICDs must maintain a safe distance.
- Handling the needle: When piercing clothing, work slowly; keep fingers away from the needle’s path to avoid pricks.
Proper and safe use
- Placement on clothing: Attach to firm layers (lapels, thicker fabrics) away from areas of intense movement; avoid places where the brooch could catch on belts, bags, or seat belts.
- Activities: Do not wear the brooch during sports, working with machinery, carrying children, or on public transport; there is a risk of catching and injury.
- Fragile decorations: Glass, pearls, and resin are prone to impact; choose appropriate placement and do not use to fasten heavy scarves without support.
- Magnetic sets: Use both parts of the magnet; do not place hard objects between the magnet and fabric, as they may damage the clothing or reduce holding strength.
Cleaning, maintenance, and storage
- Cleaning: Wipe with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid abrasive pastes and aggressive cleaners that may damage surfaces and adhesives.
- Maintenance: Regularly check the firmness of stone settings, connecting rings, and clasp elasticity; tighten or have loose parts repaired.
- Storage: Store separately in a case; cover the needle with a plastic cap or pin it into a soft pad to prevent injury and scratching.
Specific health warnings
- Allergies and sensitive skin: Some metals (e.g., nickel), lacquers, and adhesives may cause reactions; remove the brooch if redness or itching occurs.
- Punctures and bleeding: Disinfect the area if injured; seek medical advice if bleeding persists or signs of infection appear.
Disposal
- Safe disposal: Cover or bend the needle so it does not injure waste handlers; hand over metal parts for metal recycling, and sort other components according to local regulations.
Incidents and contact
- In case of an incident (prick, allergic reaction, clothing damage), stop using the product immediately. Keep the product and proof of purchase for complaint processing.
